Reds determined to right wrongs
Brighton and Liverpool go into the weekend in sixth and fourth places respectively and both will be looking to bounce back from frustrating away defeats last weekend.
Many of this week’s headlines have been about the goal Liverpool were incorrectly denied in last weekend’s 2-1 loss at Liverpool, although that VAR call came in between two red cards for the Reds..
Jurgen Klopp’s team will be determined to make amends as they look to narrow the gap at the top, especially with Arsenal and Manchester City playing each other later in the day.
Liverpool were beaten 3-0 at the Amex last season, a performance described by their manager as “awful”. But that is their only defeat in six Premier League visits to Brighton – with four wins and a draw in the other five fixtures.
Following a 6-1 thumping at Aston Villa, Brighton had a midweek trip to the south of France, when Roberto De Zerbi’s squad came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 against Marseille.
Liverpool meanwhile, eased to a 2-0 home win over Union Saint-Gilloise and were able to make several changes against the Belgian side to keep key players fresh.
Brighton vs Liverpool tip 1: Liverpool to win @ 11/10 with Sky Bet
Diaz sets his sights on number four
With Diogo Jota missing through suspension and Cody Gakpo likely to be sidelined because of a knee injury, Klopp has some decisions to make up front.
Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz seem almost certain to start as part of the front three on Sunday, with both already among the goals this season.
Salah has four and Diaz three, with the Colombian – the man denied by the VAR error last Saturday – showing in recent weeks how important he is for the Merseysiders.
The 26-year-old scored the first in a 2-0 win over the Seagulls at the Amex in March 2022 and is 2/1 to score at any time on Sunday afternoon.
Brighton vs Liverpool tip 2: Luis Diaz to score at anytime @ 2/1 with Sky Bet
Seagulls on the front foot
Nobody has scored more goals than Brighton in the Premier League after seven matches, with De Zerbi’s men finding the back of the net 19 times.
They have had their issues at the other end of the pitch though, having failed to keep a clean sheet to date and only the bottom three having worse goals-against records.
Liverpool, who have 16 league goals to their name, have scored in every competitive game this term but only have one clean sheet in the league.
Both of these teams also feature in the top seven teams in the Premier League for corners won, with Liverpool fifth (46) and Brighton joint-seventh with 39.
In the Seagulls’ most recent home game – against Bournemouth last month – there were eight corners in total, while there were no fewer than 17 corners in Liverpool’s defeat at Spurs.
Brighton vs Liverpool tip 3: Bet builder: Over 2.5 goals and each team 2+ corners in each half @ 4/1 with Sky Bet
