On Tuesday, Madison Beer came out to apologize to enraged Twitter users who accused her of sympathizing with the lead character from Vladimir Nabokov’s 1955 book, Lolita, which follows a much older man getting into a relationship with a 12-year-old girl.
Madison said on Twitter that she “misspoke” about the incident, and would never encourage such a relationship. Page Six reported on Monday that she came under fire from certain social media users regarding her comments about the classic book.
Newsweek picked up on her tweet which stated that she looked at the novel as a “taboo relationship,” because that’s how she read it. She wasn’t thinking of the age-gap, but rather of the status of the romance, in general, in relation to society.
Beer went on to say that the movie had a “much different take,” and she just liked the storyline of the novel. She went on to say that she would never “condone pedophilia y’all.” Beer added, “it’s a fake story and a made-up book.”
Page Six claims that her words initially sparked controversy on the social sharing platform. Users kicked off the hash-tag, “MadisonBeerIsOverParty,” with users asking for her to apologize immediately for what she said.

On Tuesday morning, she stated, “I love u guys, and I’m sorry.” Another fan said to her that she needed to be a lot more careful with the words she used because of the platform she has in front of millions of people.
Of course, this isn’t the first time Madison has been embroiled in a social media controversy. Earlier this year, she was accused by people online of staging a photoshoot amid the Black Lives Matter protests earlier this year.
According to Beer, the rumors of her staging a photoshoot amid the protests were “wildly untrue.” The pop star said on her account that she was out there with all of the other demonstrators fighting for what she believes in.

Today, Beer, again, revealed another tweet in which she gave more of a serious apology to the people she offended online.
