Halsey has been in the middle of the protests in Los Angeles over the past few days, and the singer shared photos and videos on Instagram to let her fans know what she has witnessed. The You Should Be Sad singer has provided first aid to those who have been injured while protesting George Floyd’s death, and she told people who are sitting in “the comfort” of their own home to open their eyes.
The 25-year-old explained that medical professionals are being consumed and exhausted with COVID-19, so there is little to no medical attention available for people who have been injured during the protests.

“I have first hand treated men women and children who have been shot in the chest, the face, the back. Some will lose vision some have lost fingers. I have been covered in innocent blood,” wrote Halsey.
She said that it has become very clear to her that some of her 20 million followers need to see what she has seen. After urging her fans to swipe through the pics and videos on her post, she told them that they don’t even scratch the surface.
“It’s easy from the comfort of your home to watch looting and rioting on television and condone the violent measures being taken by forces. But what you don’t see is innocent peaceful protestors being shot at and tear gassed and physically assaulted relentlessly,” wrote the singer. “You think it’s not happening, it’s only the “thugs” and the “riots”, right? The police are keeping you safe right? You’re wrong. This is happening everywhere. And innocent people exercising their rights to speech and assembly are facing violence and abuse of power.”
Halsey also talked about her biracial roots, explaining that her dad is a black man. She added that her mom is an EMT, and this week she had to put those two associations together in ways that have “horrified” her.
The singer – who recently revealed she is studying for the bar exam – insisted her post was not virtue signaling. Instead, she felt compelled to share with her fans what she has witnessed with her own eyes. Halsey also called out President Donald Trump and his decision to mobilize the armed forces on American citizens.

She wrapped up her post by saying that things have “escalated beyond your privilege and comfort to not care.” Halsey begged her fans to car because this is “war on Americans” and it is everyone’s problem.
Halsey attended a Black Lives Matter rally in West Hollywood over the weekend, and she tweeted on Monday that police fired rubber bullets at the crowd. She said that protesters didn’t breach the line and their hands were up, but the cops still “gassed and fired” at them. After the incident, Halsey said that she was safe and police did not arrest her.

“There were ppl I had to get to safety as many of them have VISAs. Myself + many of my peers were shot, gassed + antagonized. The frontline was calm + did not provoke,” wrote Halsey. “BUT MANY ARE NOT SAFE + MANY ARE IN CUSTODY. DONATE TO BAIL ORGS!!! I AM CURRENTLY.”
